Real FA Swans continued their good league form with an impressive 5-1 victory over local rivals Mullingar Ath. This is the first meeting of the old and new club in Mullingar and it was expected to be a decent game. Swans started the game with great intent and were pressing Athletic from the start. With the game only two mins old a solid pass from Oonagh at left back released Chloe down the left wing. Chloe dribbled towards the athletic box before letting a fly what is now becoming one of her trademark strikes accross the keeper into the top right hand corner.
Moving into only the 5th minute of the game we had what could be described as a flashpoint and prob the only one of the game. As the ball went out for a throw in. Mullingar Ath midfield player flung an elbow backwards, catching Swans midfield player Katie in the stomach. The referee who was in a great position spotted the incident and produced the red card. Athletic now with ten players were still very much in the game. Lauren Sherdian, Katelyn Dinnegan, and Rebecca O Keeffe were always a threat for the Swans defence.
Midway through the second half The Swans were again beginning to get on top. Nicole playing at centre half again this week picked up the loose ball that started the move for the swans second goal. She played a pass to Claire her centre half partner who played it wide to right full Shauna. Shauna found midfield player Jessica who in turn played in Alison down the right wing. Alison still with a bit to do raced past the athletic full back slid a great ball accross the box to leave Zöe with a tap in. From the restart Swans regained the ball and went again. In what was a complete copy of the second goal only leaving Jessica and Chloe to fight over who was putting the ball in the net at the back post to make it three nil. Jess claims she got the final touch!. BARCA ESQUE football with both goals having about 5-6 slick passes in each move with great end product. As a coaching staff we are absolutely delighted to see the girls play this brand of free flowing football, something that they must be complemented on when achieved.
At three nil the swans were in control and apart from a decent effort from Rebbca o Keeffe for athletic that just went over the top, the swans looked to finish the half the stronger. Just on the stroke of half time Chloe burst down the left played a great ball accross the face of the goal where Zöe was again on hand to find the net all be it in off the crossbar. Half time score Swans 4-0 MAFC.

Real FA Swans started the second half a little flat which gave athletic the upper hand for the opening exchanges. However all there efforts were from distance and none of them really troubled Grace in goals. The Swans emptied their bench early in the second half as they have done in every game this season. With the young age profile of our squad, we have both physical and technical player development at the forefront of what we do. Zoey P, came to replace Shauna at right back. Shauna put in one of her best displays is a Swans shirt thus far and looked very comfortable at right back. Nicola came on to replace Sarah. Sarah who is only back playing soccer this season was another swan to have a fantastic display which will give her confidence a boost. Soon after the first two subs were introduced Chloe raced clear after some nice work from Nicola. Chloe found herself one on one with the keeper, before taking the ball around her and slotting home. Swans 5-0 Mullingar with half hour to play. Aoife then replaced Alison, who's form this season has being outstanding. Kacey replaced the injured Katie who was still struggling from that elbow and Louise replaced Oonagh who also had a fine display. With twenty five minutes to go there was still plenty of time for all substitutes to make their mark. Nicola had some great runs down the right side, Aoife caused the athletic defence some problems the left side, Zoey P was her usually solid self at the back. Kacey linked the play very well , whilst Louise done a tidy job at right back.
As the game fizzled out there was still time for a moment of magic from athletic best player Lauren Sherdian. Lauren skipped by a couple swans defenders before hitting the ball against swans keeper Grace. However it was the Athletic star who reacted quickest to place the ball into the net.
Final score Real FA Swans 5-1 Mullingar Ath
